Visit the Pensoft stand at the International Congress of Conservation Biology in Australia

31 May 2025

Between the 15th and 19th June, the International Congress for Conservation Biology (ICCB 2025) will take place in Brisbane/Meanjin, Australia, with the promise to become the largest 2025 global meeting for anyone interested in conservation, as it unites experts across disciplines to foster collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange.

Organised by the Society for Conservation Biology (SCB) and hosted by the SCB Oceania Section, the event expects over 1,700 attendees from more than 90 countries, including conservation and social science researchers, students, practitioners, government and NGO professionals, policy specialists, leaders from indigenous groups, and other conservation stakeholders. In addition, ICCB also convenes conservation organisations and foundations as well as businesses in the conservation sector for project planning, retreats, and collaborations.

“With its rich biodiversity and diverse ecosystems, Australia provides the perfect setting for an event focused on protecting the Earth's vital ecosystems,” explain the organisers.

In 2025, ICCB delegates will have to choose from between 140+ sessions, which include symposia, contributed sessions, poster sessions, and plenary talks. Additionally, there will be multiple pre-congress workshops, training sessions, and round table discussions (see the detailed programme).

Welcome to the Pensoft stand!

Once again, Pensoft will join the SCB’s event as an exhibitor, in order to showcase scientific journals and books covering a variety of fields and disciplines relevant to the topics of the congress. Visitors of stand #27 will also get the chance to learn about all publishing services provided by the publishers and its self-developed ARPHA publishing platform designed for scientific journals, books and conference materials from Pensoft's Head of Journal development, PR and Marketing: Iva Boyadzhieva.

European Union-funded projects at ICCB 2025

As an active member at multiple scientific project consortia, who contributes with expertise in areas like science communication, dissemination, stakeholder engagement and technological development, Pensoft is to also use its stand at ICCB 2025 as a communication vehicle for a couple of Horizon projects, in order to inform new audiences about their progress and results.

One of these is the Horizon Europe project SELINA (an acronym for Science for Evidence-based and Sustainable Decisions about Natural Capital), where Pensoft has been assigned with the role of a leader for the project's communication and dissemination activities.

Having started in 2022 and set to run until 2027, SELINA comprises 50 partner organisations coordinated by the Leibniz University Hannover (Germany). The transdisciplinary project aims to provide smart, cost-effective, and nature-based solutions to historic societal challenges, such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and food security. One of the consortium’s main objectives is to identify biodiversity, ecosystem condition, and ecosystem service factors that can be successfully integrated into decision-making processes in both the public and private sectors.

In the meantime, REST-COAST has been working on developing tools to address key challenges to coastal ecosystems – all consequences of a long history of environmental degradation of our rivers and coasts. The consortium features 30 European institutions led by the Catalonia University of Technology UPC-BarcelonaTech (Spain). You can explore dozens of major project outputs, including research articles, data papers and project reports in REST-COAST’s open-science project collection in the Research Ideas and Outcomes (RIO) journal.

Last time around...

While the international congress organised by SCB (ICCB) is a biennial event, even-numbered years bring the opportunity for each of the four regional sections: Europe, Latin America & Caribbean, Africa, and North America, to host their own events. On the Pensoft blog, you can find highlights from the 7th European Congress of Conservation Biology (ECCB 2024) that took place in Bologna, Italy, last June.
